SUMMARY STATEMENT
The Strategic Recruitment Specialist is primarily responsible for matters related to strategic recruitment of high school students and young adult students from out of state (including private schools), and home-school and all-aged students from diverse backgrounds, including international and non-native English-speaking students. This includes interfacing with other offices in Student Affairs, Adult Literacy Services, Public Relations and Marketing, Planning and Institutional Effectiveness, and Academic Affairs.
ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS
- The Strategic Recruitment Specialist reports directly to and is responsible to the Director of Admissions and Enrollment Management.
- The Strategic Recruitment Specialist works most closely with Admissions and Enrollment Management, Early College, Adult Literacy Services, Student Financial Aid, Records, Registration and Student Support, Public Relations and Marketing, Finance, Division Directors, Faculty, High School staff in out of state counties and at private schools, and home-school organizations.
- Serves as a member of the institution’s Diversity & Inclusion Committee and take the lead in representing the college at local events celebrating different demographics of the Hagerstown community.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
- Serve as the main point of contact for graduating high school students and personnel from out of state (including private schools) and home school communities.
- Visit schools/students providing presentations and communicating with graduating students, counselors, other school personnel, and parents/guardians about opportunities for post-high school study at HCC, specifically, to apply earned HCC dual-credit toward Associate degree completion and prior to four-year college transfer and financial aid benefits
- Attend college fairs and other events to raise awareness of the value of completing an Associate, Certificate or Letter program before four-year college transfer, value of credit career programs, and the value of non-credit workforce licensure programs.
- Maintain strong positive relationships with high school personnel ensuring they have access to electronic and print resources about HCC programs.
- Promote credit and non-credit programs for graduating students and early college opportunities.
- Coordinate print, media, online recruitment material to specifically encourage graduating high school students and other young adult students to enroll.
- Strategically share financial aid and, if applicable, Maryland Promise Program information
- Communicate important dates and deadlines, to encourage prospective student action
- Utilize Early College (dual enrolled) student data to provide targeted prospective student outreach
- Identify strategic recruitment strategies for the college’s under-enrolled programs of study
- Maintain updated list of high school contacts who would help serve our under-enrolled programs
- Coordinate campus events that promote under-enrolled programs
- Coordinate faculty to visit high schools and community events
- Coordinate recruitment initiatives and outreach for diverse populations.
- Work with area high schools by connecting with diverse student populations, including prospective international, non-native English speaking, Maryland Dream Act and DACA students.
- Serve as a liaison and provide outreach to diverse cultural community groups, religious organizations, local businesses employing diverse groups, and HCC Adult Literacy Services English-language programs.
- Recruit and work with other HCC student affairs personnel to retain and graduate multicultural students in career programs, including coordinating a mentoring program for multicultural students enrolled in career programs at HCC.
- Oversees the International Student Admission Process
- Serve as designated SEVIS (Student and Exchange Visitor Program) official for Hagerstown Community College; maintains ongoing training as is required by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
- Assist non-U.S. Citizens with enrollment to the college.
- Provide ongoing outreach and follow-up to prospective students who have not applied for admission and/or enrolled in classes
- Meet with walk-ins and take phone calls with prospective students who would benefit from basic information about credit, non-credit, and PALS program options
- Assist with campus tours
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree required, Master's degree preferred.
- Two years professional admissions experience preferred.
- Experience working with diverse populations is required. Preference is given to candidates who have worked in social work and/or job training and/or basic literacy development settings.
- Fluency in written and spoken English and Spanish is preferred. Experience with Ellucian/Datatel Colleague is a plus.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Excellent organizational skills and the ability to multitask; proficient computer skills to include working with a student database system.
- Knowledge of student on-line systems; strong ability to work with others in a team environment in a collegiate manner; ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing; ability to deal tactfully and effectually with prospective students, guidance counselors, parents and HCC staff: and ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
TRAINING
Immediately upon starting position, receive training as the designated SEVIS (Student and Exchange Visitor Program) official for Hagerstown Community College; maintains ongoing training as is required by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
