Job Description

The Sommelier will play a pivotal role in enhancing our guests' dining experiences by providing expert wine and beverage recommendations, managing our beverage inventory, and ensuring exceptional service standards. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in the hospitality industry, a keen sense of taste, and the ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Curate and manage the wine list, ensuring a diverse selection that complements our menu.
  • Provide personalized wine service and food pairing recommendations to guests, enhancing their dining experience.
  • Maintain an extensive knowledge of wines, including sourcing and purchasing, to optimize our beverage offerings.
  • Collaborate with the culinary team to develop pairing suggestions that elevate the dining experience.
  • Monitor and control beverage costs, ensuring profitability while maintaining quality.
  • Train and mentor staff on wine knowledge and service standards to enhance team performance.
  • Assist with inventory management and control of wine storage and serving conditions.
  • Ensure compliance with food safety regulations by providing a certification of Food Handler’s permit and Serve Safe certificate.
  • Uphold a professional appearance and grooming standards to represent the establishment positively.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Experience: 3+ years in the hospitality industry, specifically in a sommelier role.
  • Knowledge of Sake: Preferred but not required.
  • Fine Dining Experience: Previous experience in fine dining restaurants is essential; upscale sushi experience is preferred but not required.
  • Cost Control: Ability to calculate and manage beverage costs effectively.
  • Communication: Proficiency in English is required; additional languages are a plus.
  • Technology Skills: Competency in Microsoft Office Suite and Google products.
  • Team Management: Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to manage people and work collaboratively in a team environment.

Physical Demands:

  • Must be able to bend, stretch, twist, climb, and exhibit high mobility/flexibility in small spaces.
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods without breaks during busy service times.
  • Capacity to lift or move up to 50 pounds without assistance.

Required Skills:

  • Expertise in wine service and knowledge of food and beverage pairing.
  • Proficiency in wine knowledge and buying strategies.
