Job Description
We are looking for a dedicated and skilled Remote Sign Language Interpreter to join our inclusive education team. This position is essential in creating an accessible and supportive learning environment for our deaf and hard-of-hearing students. As a Sign Language Interpreter, you will play a key role in ensuring clear communication and enhancing the educational experience for all students, while collaborating closely with educators, staff, and families.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide high-quality remote American Sign Language (ASL) interpretation services for students across all grade levels, ensuring smooth communication during virtual classroom sessions and school events.
Collaborate effectively with teachers to support lesson delivery, fostering an inclusive learning environment for deaf and hard-of-hearing students.
Interpret a wide range of academic content, including subject-specific material and general school communications.
Maintain the confidentiality of all student information, upholding the highest ethical standards of professional conduct.
Adapt interpretation methods to suit individual student needs, ensuring that all students have access to the curriculum and educational activities.
Attend and actively participate in Individualized Education Program (IEP) meetings and parent-teacher conferences, providing insights and ensuring clear communication for all stakeholders.
Support the broader school community by promoting understanding of deaf culture and fostering an inclusive atmosphere.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in ASL Interpretation or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
EIPA score of 3.5 or higher (or equivalent certification).
Native or near-native proficiency in both ASL and English.
Proven experience in educational interpreting, particularly in K-12 settings.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with a diverse team of educators and staff.
Solid technological aptitude and familiarity with remote interpreting platforms.
Ability to work independently, while contributing positively to a team-oriented environment.
Commitment to continuous professional development and improvement in interpreting practices.
Additional Expectations:
Stay current with curriculum content and specialized terminology to ensure accurate and effective interpretation.
Maintain accurate records of interpreting services, including details of student interactions and any specific needs or accommodations provided.
Approach each assignment with flexibility, adapting to the unique requirements of different students and educational settings.
