Full time Regional Medical Director - DVM - New opportunity + Competitive Salary -  Houston, Texas area

 

A leading veterinary organization is seeking an experienced veterinarian to join their team as a Regional Medical Director . This full-time, salaried role requires weekly travel to 20-35 practice locations across the Southern U.S., with the ideal candidate based in the Houston, TX area. Applicants from other major cities in the region will also be considered.

The Regional Medical Director is responsible for overseeing the clinical operations of multiple practices, ensuring high-quality patient care, and fostering a positive, collaborative work environment. The role includes mentoring staff, guiding operational improvements, and driving exceptional client experiences.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide mentorship and support to DVMs across multiple locations to ensure excellent patient care.
  • Monitor hospital performance , including case load, client satisfaction, and hospital flow, and provide recommendations for improvement.
  • Staff urgent shifts as needed to support practices and maintain clinical coverage.
  • Review and analyze key performance metrics (e.g., revenue, visit rates, etc.) and provide strategic recommendations to meet goals.
  • Collaborate with leadership teams to address operational and clinical challenges.
  • Maintain a clinical presence , working a minimum of 8 days per month in hospitals.
  • Conduct quarterly inspections of all hospitals within the assigned region to ensure compliance with policies and best practices.
  • Encourage healthy communication between DVMs and foster a culture of collaboration and ongoing learning.
  • Host regional DVM events to enhance teamwork and professional development.

 

Skills, Knowledge, and Expertise:

  • DVM/VMD degree from an AVMA-accredited institution (or successful completion of the ECFVG/PAVE program).
  • Active veterinary license(s) in the states where hospitals are located.
  • DEA registration and a valid veterinary license in good standing (or ability to obtain).
  • 5+ years of clinical practice experience , with prior leadership or mentorship experience preferred.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills .
  • Strong leadership, team management, and conflict resolution skills .
  • Ability to analyze and interpret complex data to make informed decisions.
  • A positive attitude , resiliency, and the ability to adapt to diverse practice environments.
  • Ability to travel extensively and manage high levels of time away from home (company-paid).
