About the Role As a Wheelchair Transport Driver, you play a vital role in delivering safe, comfortable, and timely transportation to our clients. This position requires you to kneel, bend, lift, walk, and stand for extended periods, ensuring that every client is well cared for. Key Responsibilities

  • Safely transport clients to and from medical appointments, facilities, and hospitals via wheelchair or stretcher.
  • Assist clients with boarding, disembarking, and handling equipment as needed.
  • Operate company vans in compliance with all safety regulations and policies.
  • Perform pre-transport safety checks and report any safety or maintenance issues promptly.
  • Use in-vehicle tablets for trip information, updates, and time validation.

Job Qualifications

  • Valid U.S. driver’s license with a clean driving record for a minimum of 5 years.
  • Must pass a Level 2 background check through AHCA (no convicted felonies).
  • Ability to pass a DOT physical to obtain medical card.
  • Minimum age of 23 years.
  • Proficient in English (speaking, reading, and writing).
    • Friendly, courteous, and compassionate team player with excellent customer service skills and a positive attitude, even under pressure.
  • Proven ability to safely assist clients, including helping lift patients over 250 pounds with assistance.
  • Must be able to kneel, bend, lift, walk, and stand for extended periods.
  • Commercial driving experience is preferred but not required.

Licenses and/or Certifications:

  • CPR/First Aid Certification
  • Valid Florida driver license with a driving record acceptable to company policy and insurance program requirements.
  • DOT medical card
  • CTAA Patient Sensitivity, PASS (Passenger Securement), Defensive Driving, HIPAA Regulations, VA Certified Transporter
  • All required certifications must remain current and active. WTS will provide these certifications upon hire for dedicated and motivated drivers.

Physical Requirements & DOT Physical

This role demands physical stamina: you must be able to kneel, bend, lift, walk, and stand for extended periods. To obtain your DOT medical card, you'll complete a comprehensive physical exam covering:

  • General Exam: Review of your medical history and overall health (heart, lungs, abdomen, musculoskeletal system).
  • Vital Signs: Blood pressure (must be ≤140/90 without medication), pulse, etc.
  • Neurological, Vision & Hearing Tests: Screening for neurological issues, meeting specific vision requirements, and hearing a forced whisper from 5 feet away.
  • Additional Tests: Urinalysis, sleep apnea screening (if needed), and cardiovascular evaluation.
  • Prior non-emergency medical transport experience and credentials are preferred, though full training and credentialing will be provided.

Our Benefits

  • Pay: $15.00 - $16.00 per hour plus per trip incentive pay.
  • Guaranteed full-time hours with overtime opportunities (when available).

  • 5 days paid time off after one year and 6 paid holidays after 90 days.
