Job Description

We are seeking a compassionate and skilled Sign Language Interpreter to provide virtual interpretation services for an elementary school student who is deaf or hard of hearing. This is a full-time, fully remote position for the duration of the school year (August 2024 through May 2025), where you'll be an integral part of the student's educational experience.

Key Responsibilities:

Provide real-time sign language interpretation for a student who is deaf or hard of hearing during classroom activities, meetings, and extracurricular events.
Facilitate smooth communication between the student, teachers, staff, and parents, ensuring the student's active participation and understanding.
Adapt your interpretation methods to meet the individual needs and preferences of the student.
Work closely with educators and support teams to foster an inclusive and supportive learning environment.
Ensure confidentiality and professionalism while maintaining a positive and respectful approach at all times.

Qualifications:

A Bachelor's degree in Sign Language Interpreting or a related field.
RID (Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf) certification is preferred.
Previous experience interpreting in educational settings, particularly with K-12 students.
Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and familiarity with various sign language systems.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and collaborate effectively in a remote work environment.
