We are hosting a part-time undergraduate internship for a college student interested in developing a career in bioinformatics in the field of vaccine and infectious disease research. This is a paid position and it is scoped for an academic quarter, with the potential option to extend the internship to a second academic quarter (to exceed a period no longer than six months). This internship is designed to be a learning opportunity involving data analysis and software development in a professional scientific environment. Work can be done remotely or on campus.

Responsibilities

PRIMARY/ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

• Learn to access, use, analyze and manage viral protein sequence data.
• Develop a software system for working with and analyzing viral protein sequence data.
• Work with the Bioinformatics team to develop project requirements and specifications.
• Communicate with the Bioinformatics team and other collaborators about
• Conduct an internal presentation
• The intern may work remotely or on campus. There will be some direct oversight (in person or via remote communications) as part of the learning process, with additional interaction to guide the intern with developing and producing the software deliverables.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• The applicant must be an undergraduate student, working toward a degree in a field related to biomedical or public health research, and has completed some coursework toward that degree.
• The applicant should have an interest in bioinformatics and data analysis, and have received some undergraduate-level experience in programming, ideally in Python 3.
• The applicant must be comfortable working with a team of scientists to develop and deliver a project defined by pre-specified requirements.

The hourly pay range for this position is from $20.00 to $26.22 and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications.
