Apply today and join our team. The State Water Resources Control Board’s Colorado River Basin Region has an opening for an Engineering Geologist in the Land Disposal Program. The position is located at 73720 Fred Waring Drive, Suite 100, Palm Desert CA 92260, in the scenic Coachella Valley next to Civic Center Park.

Desirable Qualifications

In addition to evaluating each candidate's relative ability, as demonstrated by quality and breadth of experience, the following factors will provide the basis for competitively evaluating each candidate:


  • Experience or knowledge working with disposal of designated waste and non-hazardous solid waste.
  • Experience or knowledge of engineering concepts and principles such as hydrology, hydrogeology, contaminant fate of transport, and water and soil chemistry.
  • Experience or knowledge of domestic, municipal, and industrial wastewater treatment, water quality control principles and water quality objectives.
  • Experience analyzing and writing technical reports.
  • Experience working with Disadvantaged Communities, Environmental Justice, and Diversity
  • Experience working with databases for storing case file records.
  • Performing data analyses using appropriate software.
  • Experience or knowledge working with the California Environmental Quality Act.
  • Experience or knowledge of stormwater management and regulations.
  • Experience or knowledge interpreting State and Federal environmental laws and regulations.
  • Experience making presentations and facilitating meetings.
  • Experience or knowledge performing field inspections or other related field work.

Benefits

Water Board employees may be eligible for benefits. Health benefits and leave programs are available for most permanent, full-time employees, and some permanent, part-time employees. Benefit eligibility may depend on length of service and may be subject to collective bargaining agreements negotiated between the State of California and employee organizations that define wages, hours, and terms and conditions of employment.

Statement of Qualifications (SOQ)

A Statement of Qualifications (SOQ) must be submitted along with the State Application and serves as documentation of candidate’s ability to present information clearly and concisely in writing. It should be typed, no more than two (2) pages in length, using 12 pt Arial font , and normal margins.

Indicate your total years of experience when answering the following statements/questions:

  1. Describe your work experience and knowledge with municipal solid waste disposal, class II surface impoundments, and municipal wastewater treatment plants.
  2. Describe your knowledge and understanding of hydrogeology and contaminant fate of transport.
  3. Describe your experience researching, analyzing, interpreting, and applying laws and regulations that apply to water quality protection.
  4. Describe your experience reviewing and analyzing technical reports, such as construction documents, laboratory reports, and work plans.
