Founded in 1965, the Chinese-American Planning Council, Inc. (CPC) aims to promote the social and economic empowerment of Chinese American, immigrant, and low-income communities. Program Summary

CPC School Age Child Care (SACC) Programs are after school and summer programs serving students from grades K-5 each year (ages 5-12). The goal of the program is to support students in all learning areas including intellectual, academic, physical, social and emotional growth. The program offers creative and structured activities to strengthen participants’ academic skills and incorporates the disciplines of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) in a variety of projects, as well as art and physical activities. SACC Programs generally operate on weekdays from 2:00 pm - 6:00 pm, with possible evenings, weekends, and school holidays at the following sites:

Job Summary

Reporting to the Program Director, the part-time Education Specialist at Chrystie St plays a critical part in the establishment and maintenance of quality by supporting frontline staff in effective implementation of program activities.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Observe and evaluate activities weekly; provide onsite training and coach staff in activity planning and implementation; and provide staff with feedback.
  • Review lesson plans and ensure all activities are designed with learning goals or skill gains; adapt curricula to fit program goals.
  • Work alongside the Program Director to develop and implement engaging academic, enrichment and recreational activities focusing on DYCD goals, STEM and Literacy.
  • Maintain a high level of communication and positive relationship with the school principal, school staff, after school staff and parents.
  • Assist to maintain accurate records of staff and participant attendance.
  • Develop and maintain participants’ progress reports.
  • Develop tools for evaluating effectiveness of activities and events.
  • Maintain a regular schedule for staff observations and staff meetings.
  • Attend meetings as required by funder and CPC.
  • Maintain a regular schedule of meetings with the Program Director.
  • Fulfill other duties as assigned by the Program Director.


Qualifications

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree required. Bachelor’s degree in education, social work, counseling, or related field preferred.
  • Teaching credentials and some teaching experience a plus-- assets crucial to successful collaboration with the host school
  • Experience delivering support services as described in the first 2 bullet points listed under Essential Responsibilities
  • Administrative and supervisory experience preferred.
  • Prior experience working with elementary school youth in an after-school classroom setting a plus.


Skills And Competencies

  • Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong social and emotional maturity, and behavioral management skills; knowledge of the principles of positive youth development and ability to adhere to DYCD’s strengths-based approach.
  • Knowledge and proficiency of MS office applications
  • Bilingual in English and Mandarin or Spanish a plus.
  • Must pass full background check that includes fingerprinting and SCR (Statewide Central Register).


Compensation & Benefits Overview

  • $21.00 - $23.00 per hour; 17.5 hours per week through June 2025
  • CPC offers eligible temporary staff members mandatory benefits, including paid New York State sick time
