Designer (2D) | Part time | 21 hours

Salary : | £36,932 - £40,123 | FTE 35 hours - salary will be pro rata to 0.6 FTE

Hours : 21 hours (3 days) per week | Monday - Friday

Location : National Museum of Scotland, Chambers Street, Edinburgh/ Multi-Site

We are seeking a creative and detail-driven graphic designer, capable of providing innovative and practical solutions to a variety of 2D design challenges, to join our Exhibitions and Design team.

About the Designer (2D) role:

We are looking for a talented Designer (2D) to join our Exhibitions & Design team to develop creative, audience-focused graphic design solutions for exhibitions, displays in our permanent galleries, signage and wayfinding.

As a Designer (2D) at National Museums Scotland you will :

  • Lead the 2D design for exhibitions and displays projects, overseeing all design stages from concept to delivery, including preparing tender documentation and managing onsite installation as required.
  • Be responsible for the 2D design of signage and wayfinding across all sites, collaborating with colleagues as needed to ensure consistency and effectiveness.
  • Develop and deliver innovative, audience-focused graphic design solutions that effectively communicate key messages, engage the target audience, and align with brand objectives.
  • Ensure effective project, financial and contractor management through applying a sound understanding of National Museums Scotland’s project and procurement methodologies.
  • Advocate for design excellence at National Museums Scotland, advising colleagues on design best practice and the consistent application of corporate identity guidelines across all media, including digital.

Skills and experience we’re looking for in our Designer (2D)

  • Professional experience working as a 2D designer in museums and heritage/visitor attractions.
  • Significant experience working with Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop).
  • Experience of working effectively, both independently and as part of a team.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Strong practical knowledge of accessibility guidelines relevant to 2D exhibition design.
  • Ability to organise and prioritise workload with minimum supervision.
