Job Description

We are seeking skilled Boiler Plant Operators  for the Hot Springs VA Medical Center. This is W2 contract 1+ year opportunity. This position requires experienced professionals to operate and maintain a boiler plant with four boilers, ensuring safe and efficient operations in a critical healthcare environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operate boilers with a total capacity of 55,000 pounds of steam per hour, ensuring efficient combustion and compliance with air emission regulations.
  • Use electronic, hydraulic, and pneumatic controls, along with meters and DDC computer-generated data, to monitor and adjust boiler operations.
  • Perform maintenance and repairs on boilers, burners, feed water systems, and associated equipment.
  • Conduct chemical testing of boiler water and apply appropriate treatments to maintain water quality.
  • Maintain the Medical Center’s water supply systems, including pumps, water softeners, and chlorination systems.
  • Respond to emergencies, such as power outages, by operating backup generators to sustain operations.
  • Adhere to VA safety protocols, including lock-out/tag-out procedures and confined space regulations.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of steam generation, VA safety codes, and water tube/fire tube boiler operations.
  • Familiarity with Spill Prevention, Control, and Countermeasure Plans for handling large fuel oil systems.
  • Proficiency in operating auxiliary equipment such as reverse osmosis units, fuel delivery systems, and water softeners.
  • Ability to conduct chemical tests for boiler water and apply appropriate treatments.
  • Knowledge of EPA standards for potable water disinfection and legionella prevention.
  • South Dakota Rural Water License for Basic Water Treatment (or ability to obtain).
  • U.S. Citizenship required.

Schedule:

  • 24/7 operation with 8-hour shifts:
    • Shift Options:
      • 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM
      • 4:00 PM to 12:00 AM
      • 12:00 AM to 8:00 AM
  • Operators are typically assigned specific shifts.

Benefits

Compensation Details:

  • Total Weekly Gross Package: $1,957.20

    • Taxable Per Hour:  $30
    • Overtime Per Hour (Taxable):  $45
    • Hourly Fringe/Company Benefits (Non-Taxable): $4.93/hour ($197.20/week)
    • Loging Stipend: $50 Per Day
    • Meals & Incidentals Stipend: $30 Per Day
