Job Description

Are you an education leader looking for a new opportunity? Join the Nebraska Department of Education as an Assessment Grant Specialist, and implement Nebraska’s Coherence and Alignment for Educators and Families (CAEF) grant! Candidates must be organized and have ability to multitask with attention to detail. The team is looking for candidates who are great communicators, collaborative, ambitious, and innovative. This position will design and execute the assessment reporting system to improve usability of assessment data for educators and families.

The Coherence and Alignment for Educators and Families (CAEF) statewide assessment grant will enrich and extend instructional utility of Nebraska’s existing statewide assessment system by engaging data users (i.e., NE educators and families) to provide solutions for how NE assessment data can be more easily used to support instruction. This includes analyzing the assessment system design, developing new tools, and facilitating training to educators and families on how to use assessment data.

This position is fixed term , with an end date of September 30, 2027. This position may be extended subject to the continuation and availability of funding.

Office Location & Schedule: This position is assigned to our office located at 84th & O St, Lincoln, NE, with potential for some telework after an onboarding and training period, contingent upon proper agency approvals.

Essential Functions

  • Oversees implementation of the Coherence and Alignment for Educators and Families (CAEF) grant project to ensure timelines and deliverables are completed.
  • Collaborates to develop and refine assessment tools, score reporting templates, and instructional support resources.
  • Provides guidance to vendors to ensure compliance with contract specifications and timelines.
  • Develops and delivers professional learning experiences and provides resources related to how to use assessment data to inform instruction and support student learning.
  • Manages projects budget, ensuring accurate allocations and use of funds to support grant objectives.
  • Conducts surveys, gathers results, and integrates feedback to improve quality and usability of assessment tools.
  • Demonstrates commitment to valuing diversity and contributing to an inclusive working and learning environment.

Working Conditions and Travel :

This position requires approximately 80% of work time spent in an office environment (e.g., state offices, home offices); the remaining 20% is spent traveling or working in alternative sites such as schools, educational service units, and other service agencies. There is also approximately two days of overnight travel per month.

Requirements / Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications: Master’s degree in the field of education or related subject area, two years of successful preK-12 teaching or school administration experience in an approved or accredited Nebraska school, or equivalent teaching or school administration experience in another state or country, and eligible for/possess a current Nebraska Teaching or Administrative Certificate per §79-807.

NOTE: A Nebraska Teaching or Administrative Certificate per 92 NAC 21 must be possessed by the time the candidate begins employment at the Nebraska Department of Education and an active certificate maintained while in the Education Specialist position.

Substitution: Bachelor’s degree in education or equivalent Master of Arts in Teaching per 92 NAC 21, and four years of teaching or school administration experience in an approved or accredited Nebraska school or equivalent teaching or school administration experience in another state or country, and eligible for/possess a current Nebraska Teaching or Administrative Certificate per §79-807.

Preferred Qualifications: Master’s degree in Education with at least five years of experience in PreK-12 teaching or administrative experience, including experience leading programs or special projects. Experience managing educational projects related to statewide assessment, and facilitating professional development experiences for educators.
